4 Elements to Create a Virtual Event's Visual Brand

Virtual Event Visual Design
Brand identity is all the combined elements of your brand, including color, logo, content messaging, and overall feel and look that identifies you to your customers
— Canva.com

Everything you do to promote the event AND during the virtual event is digital, so eye-catching graphics are a must and NOT a nice-to-have.

When creating the look and feel of the digital experience, don’t fret there are many platforms available that can help.  My favorite DIY graphic design tool is Canva.com or you can find a reasonably priced graphic designer on Fiverr.com or other online resource.

Below are the four components to focus on when creating a visual brand of a virtual event (you can use this for in-person or hybrid events too).

choose colors for brand

Color

Select limited number of colors for the brand:

  • Dark Color

  • Light Color

  • Accent Color (that is used minimally)

  • White/Cream

  • Black

Don’t think too much into this - if you have a pic & love the colors find out the hex codes from a ‘color picker’ website.

If you want to keep consistency use your corporate colors.

choose font type

Font Type

There are several types of fonts (serif, sans-serif, script, monospace and display) you can use, mix them up or use just one.

BUT it’s very important to pick a font type that is easily readable on all devices and internet browsers.  Some very stylish fonts can be difficult to read on a mac using Safari internet browser.  Search ‘best font types for the internet’ to find some that works for you.

Again, if you want to maintain consistency use your corporate font types.

create a logo

Logo

Canva.com has templates already created where you can change colors and copy. Fiverr is a great platform to find a graphic designer to make a logo on the cheap.

This doesn’t have to be complex.  A logo can be as simple as stylized font lined up in a certain way, look at the blu kee logo as an example.

Once created make sure to have different versions of the logo:

  • color version (white & transparent background)

  • black version (white & transparent background)

  • white version (with transparent background)

The design process doesn’t end with a logo and a header for the event website. There are many other places that need design attention.

  • Buttons that people click on

  • Frames to go around the speaker, moderator, support staff headshot

  • Icons that help participants digest the info (cause people are visual and sometimes it’s better than reading words)

  • The most obvious…social media

  • Email headers and other graphics within emails

  • Digital ads

So there you go, the four important elements for creating a visual brand for a virtual, in-person or hybrid event.

Please comment below with your favorite online resources for creating a visual brand, as it’s helpful for all to crowd-source content and resources. Obviously I’m in love with Canva.com ;)
